Montenegro may be a small country, but it has one of Europe’s most dramatic coastlines. A yacht charter here blends untouched natural beauty with thousands of years of history.

From Illyrian tribes and Roman garrisons to Venetian palaces and traces of the Ottoman era, many civilizations have shaped Montenegro. Today, coastal towns such as Kotor, Perast and Budva are UNESCO-recognized open-air museums, where medieval architecture meets modern Mediterranean culture.

Below you’ll find a week-long yacht charter itinerary covering the most remarkable and must-see parts of Montenegro.

Day 1: Tivat - Herceg Novi

Begin your journey in Porto Montenegro, a modern marina filled with luxury boutiques and world-class restaurants.

From here, set course for Herceg Novi, a coastal town founded in the 14th century by Bosnian King Tvrtko I. Known as the “City of Stairs,” Herceg Novi is home to ancient fortresses, monasteries, and lush botanical gardens. Be sure to visit Kanli Kula Fortress — today it serves as an open-air theatre and offers breathtaking panoramic views.

Day 2: Budva

Budva is one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic, with a history stretching back more than 2,500 years.

Its Old Town, Stari Grad, is still beautifully preserved, featuring Venetian walls, narrow stone alleys and charming little squares. Visit St. Ivan Cathedral during the day, and in the evening explore Budva’s vibrant nightlife. Just outside the town, Mogren and Jaz beaches offer wide stretches of sandy coastline perfect for relaxing.

Day 3: Sveti Stefan

Arrive at Sveti Stefan, Montenegro’s most iconic postcard view. Originally built in the 15th century as a fortified fishing village to protect residents from pirate attacks, the islet was later transformed into an exclusive resort that once welcomed celebrities such as Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor.

Today, operated by Aman Resorts, Sveti Stefan is renowned for its pink-sand beaches and timeless historic charm. For a touch of spiritual heritage, visit the Praskvica Monastery, which dates back to 1413.

Day 4: Petrovac

Continue towards Petrovac, a charming coastal town known for its Roman mosaics and strong Venetian heritage. Just offshore, the small islets of Katič and Sveta Nedjelja can be explored by tender. Quieter than Budva, Petrovac stands out with its rich historical character and tranquil atmosphere.

Day 5: Bigova

Set course for Bigova, once an ancient Roman anchorage and later a traditional fishing village. This quiet bay, which once served as a trading stop for Venetian sailors, is now ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Enjoy freshly caught seafood from local fishermen and soak in the untouched beauty of the Mediterranean.

Day 6: Kotor

Cruise into the Bay of Kotor, often described as the southernmost fjord in Europe. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kotor flourished during the Venetian era and is famed for its steep mountain walls and fortifications climbing up the hillside.

Visit the Cathedral of St. Tryphon, dating back to 1166, wander through the medieval squares, and hike up to San Giovanni Fortress for breathtaking panoramic views. The Maritime Museum offers a fascinating look into centuries of Adriatic seafaring and trade.

Day 7: Perast

Visit Perast, a baroque jewel built by wealthy Venetian sea captains. Despite its small size, the town is home to 16 churches and 17 palaces.

Explore the islets of Our Lady of the Rocks, built in 1632, and Saint George. Both islands are steeped in legend and offer some of the most picturesque views in the Adriatic.

Day 8: Tivat

Conclude your journey in Porto Montenegro. Before you depart, explore Tivat’s cultural highlights or take one last stroll through Kotor’s enchanting medieval streets.

There are direct flights from many European cities. Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Ryanair, EasyJet, and Air Montenegro operate frequent routes to the country.

Transfer time from Tivat Airport to the major marinas ranges between 10 and 30 minutes.
